Struck camp and set off on inland
route to Wedge Island settlement.
Met Navy ute (on Naval range) – gave us directions on where to
go. We followed this advice
(although it was different to the pace notes in our book).
We took a track that went fairly far inland and had a longish
slog to get back to the coast at Wedge Island.
Investigated beach again – would have been passable but tide too high and incoming still. Got lost in shack settlement. Eventually found track in roughly the right direction (again too far inland). Track very narrow. Involved some bush-bashing and scratched paint. Eventually found bumpy, rocky track on which to crawl back to the coastal route. Lunch on beach, then fun on tracks winding through sanddunes. Like a roller coaster. Arrived at Grey settlement without mishap and followed well worn, potholed track to main Cervantes-Pinnacles road. New compressor made excellent and speedy job of re-inflating the tyres. Re-visited the Pinnacles. Ended day at Cervantes van park. Not rainy or windy this time. |
