Set off north on a very new road. Passed through the small town of Jurien and detoured along
gravel roads to Lesueur
National Park. Found a
sandy 4WD track to take us up to the base of Mount Lesueur.
Had a brisk walk to the top of the hill.
Beautiful views but mountain would be a bit of a large word.
Fred nearly trod on a small snake (not sure which type) but they
do seem to like slithering across the path in front of his feet.
Continued back on gravel road to a much rougher and fairly rocky 4WD track that led to Stockyard Gully Caves. We took head torches to explore the cave but their light was rather too dim to cope with the size of the cavern. In fact, it felt rather strange being in such a spacious cave when you are used to squeezing through tight tunnels. The patch outside the caves made a great picnic area, although some oaf had been walking on the table with muddy boots! Back on the road after lunch, we passed large area of mining – sand we think. We have ended the day at a peaceful, secluded campsite on the shores of Lake Indoon. Thoroughly exercised Fred chopping up dead trees for this evenings fire, while I watched the Pelicans swimming serenely on the lake. Actually, I did that for about 5 minutes and then set up the tent. |
