Spent the morning following walking trails around Dales
Gorge. Beautiful!
But still not tempted for a swim.
On our return from the walk we set off out of the National Park
in the direction of Newman.
Located the Mount Robinson rest area where rumour had it that a track led to the top of the mountain. Had a quick scout around and located a likely looking track. Interesting shunt to get around the hairpin at the start and then onwards and upwards. UHF radio picked up some guys heading towards the top in convoy so we warned them we were on our way up. Proceeded without difficulty to the first coll – great views. Continued downwards to go up again. Waited for convoy of 5 vehicles to descend before making final push for the top. Steep! But amazing views and fantastic 4Wding. Descended safely and continued on towards Newman. Called into Wunna Munna to see the rock art and bumped into convoy of 5 4WD again, having lunch by the waterhole. Had good chat before returning down the 4WD track to the main road. Got bogged in fairly deep puddle which required a small amount of winching to extricate ourselves (first use of the winch). Muddy water lapping around our feet (might have to reposition the HF radio!) Easy out with the winch. Arrived in Newman in time to visit tourist office and get info on other 4WD tracks in the area. |
