Beautiful blue sky and very cold. Had to watch out for ice!
Left Gill’s at 8am and headed through Edinburgh
(not-so-rush-hour) to the Forth Road bridge.
Travelled North and West towards the Highlands and Islands
(slight detour when we came off the motorway and went the wrong
direction down the A road. Scenic
tour of very icy back roads ensued.
Back on track, we headed up through Glen Coe. Managed to get above the snow line. I think that it is probably fairly early in the year for snow that low. Caught the Corran Ferry and made our way through winding single track lanes, hugging the edge of spectacular lochs to the most westerly point of the UK mainland. Dropped down to see if the ferry to Mull was operational – it was, but only as a passenger boat – definitely no large landrovers! So decided to go back via Fort William. First night spent in the Landrover. By time we had found a scenic layby to stop in it was dark, blowing a gale and tipping it down with rain! Things will be somewhat dryer when we have the tarp fitted up. The stove goes a treat – very controllable (and rapid). We have a slight condensation problem which needs attention but ut was really quite comfortable. One duvet would have been plenty! |
