Tuesday 30 November |
Still wet and extremely windy. Traffic reports tell of roads closed due to flooding and
landslides. Definitely not
the weather to be climbing mountains (particularly as all of the snow
has been replaced by rain). Extracted
ourselves from the winding single track roads and headed inland.
Spent morning wandering around Fort William before heading south
on the scenic route.
Lots of castles. Roads flooded in some places – including one which we hit a little hard (just as well we have a snorkel). Carried on South eventually leaving Scotland (passed 2 overturned trucks). Penrith-Scotch Corner road was closed to high sided vehicles due to high winds. We decided that we didn’t have highsides and so that this did not apply. Drove as far as Worksop where we stopped for fish and chips. Must have been too far South as Black Pudding was not on the menu. Drove into Sherwood Forest to find a suitable stopping place. Found ideal lay-by BUT it contained a burnt-out car which on closer inspection was still glowing and smoking – so we moved swiftly onwards. Soon found somewhere else. Condensation wasn’t so bad as before (but then it wasn’t raining). |
