Rang Kashyip motors several times – fobbed off with not
in office. Eventually got
through and were told to try again in the afternoon.
Rang the British High Commission to see ifthey could offer us any advice on reputable car shipping firms. They were extremely helpful and we arranged a meeting with Moses Peta. Caught a rickshaw to the ‘Diplomatic area’ of town. After leaving camera and penknife at security, we had an extremely useful meeting with Moses and Manjulah. Their office organises all the shipping and transport fot the diplomatic fleet of cars. We left the office having given all our details and requirements and left it that Moses would obtain some quotes from the companies that they use. He was unbelievably helpful and called us with updates throughout the rest of the day. He also provided us with pointers for the best places to obtain Landrover spares. So we left the embassy in the direction of Khan Market. Located a cul de sac full of shops selling car parts and accessories. We even found somewhere that said they had Landrover shock absorbers. These were priced at 7000 rupees for the pair! (over £100 – you can get them for between £15 - £30 in the UK). We will look into the cost of shipping them out here. We also managed to purchase 3rd party insurance today. The New India Assurance company rather handily has an office opposite the campsite, so we now have 3 months of third party insurance for the princely sum of 300 rupees (<£5). To celebrate, we travelled 45 minutes across Delhi to reach the only Multiplex (well 4 screen) cinema in an attempt to see ‘The World is Not Enough’ Bond film that is still showing here. However, we didn’t fancy waiting until 11:20pm so we saw ‘Driving you Crazy’ instead. Very funny, but definitely a ‘Flash’ film. Rickshaw driver got lost on the way home. |
