Saturday 18 December

Spent the day wandering around Frankfurt.  Most of the snow had gone but we were blessed with drizzle for the best part of the morning.  We managed to find the main shopping area without the aid of a map.  Once there, we obtained a guide from the tourist info place.  They also provided us with ideas on places to see.  We wandered down to the old town and sampled some of the culinary delights available at the Weihnachts Markt (Christmas Market).  The Gluhwein was particularly good (Fred wouldn’t let me keep that mug!  It had been especially printed for this year).

We also enjoyed meandering through a flea market that was held on the banks of the river.  The river is fairly busy and you can usually see at least one barge travelling up or down.  All the barges have a car on the cabin rooves and some have kiddies climbing frames etc on the decks.  I guess the whole family live aboard.

We ambled back to the main shopping centre and did some serious looking for a present for the Scotts.  Eventually found a tin containing Lebkuchen and other edible German items.  Also managed to find some boxer shorts for Fred – now he can go a little longer without having to do any washing!  Exploring town turned out to be quite a long, tiring day so we returned to the Hotel and watched the Horse Whisperer DVD from Mum.  Thanks Mum – a very good film.
