Woke to cold and windy weather. It almost looked like rain.
Walked into Redbank
Gorge. Too windy to
take lilo to raft up the gorge and definitely too cold to swim.
Rather a shame!
Continued on to Gosse Bluff – another meteorite/comet? crater. Much bigger than Wolfe Creek Crater and very much older at 149 million years old. Managed to take the ‘4WD’ route to the crater (not signed off the main road, but signed a short way in). It turned out that a new road had been run through from the Loop Road and the old road had been abandoned. Travelled somewhat out of our way to visit Palm Valley – one of the only areas in Central Australia where Cabbage Palms grow. 21km of 4WD track – sand and riverbed gravel to reach the Valley. Fred didn’t think that it was worth it, but it really is a beautiful place and very interesting, biologically speaking. Longhaul onwards to camp at Kings Canyon. Potentially good Rangers Slide Show thwarted by malfunctioning slide projector. |
