Drove to Parker Point, Hammersley Iron to pick up permit
for private road. Permit
valid for 4 days, so hopefully there won’t be a problem with the
Landrover parts. Went
sightseeing – Dampier: Hammersley Iron loading facility and Dampier
Salt ponds.
Then continued back through Karratha to Cossack – another ‘Ghost Town’, with a few more buildings remaining than Old Onslow. This town was abandoned when the channel silted up. Its in a very picturesque location. Bays and Mangroves. Carried on up the coast to Point Samson. The wind is as strong as ever and the van park is rather exposed so after a coffee we decided to return to Karratha and stay there. At least the wind is handy for drying the washing. Fred had a delve in the spares box and discovered that we have all the replacement ball joints and so he has set too fitting them. He has also replaced the power steering belt which had started to slip. Ascertained that we need new front shock absorbers (we only had new rear ones in Perth). |
