Saturday 27 November

Made our way out to the A1 the scenic way – via a toll bridge which extracted the princely sum of 15p from our coffers!  Journey to Edinburgh was fairly ineventful: we even found Gill and Iain's flat without getting lost! (or without getting altitude sickness from climbing to the 4th Floor).

When we arrived Gill was in a dilemma about what to do in the evening.  She had more or less decided that we would go out for a meal on our own.  She rang Craig to let him know that she and Iain wouldn’t make his birthday bash and had her mind made up for her (and we did have a brilliant evening).

Problem solved, we set off on a whistlestop tour of Edinburgh – including the Castle, the Old Town and other bits that I can’t remember.  Clear sky and chilly wind.Lunch at the Elephant House, followed by beer at Cloisters.

The evening was a riot – we had a tour of Edinburgh’s residential areas (taking in an offlicense with free jelly beans) and made it to Craig and Pauline’s flat.  Downed a couple of drinks and then a tour back towards Gill’s and the Mexican restaurant.  Excellent food.  Craig and Fred did a good job on winding Gill up about numerous ‘Australian issues’ (Craig being Australian).

Staggered back to Craig and Paulines for more drinks when we kicked out of the restaurant who wanted a second sitting.  Andy very ill.  Back to Gill’s in the rain – Ben, Gill and I took a detour through a kiddies playground and found that the boys had rather immaturely activated the deadlock on the flat door and were sniggering on the other side of the door because we were locked out.
