Visited the caves at Ajanta. These caves were enlarged and carved out of the cliff face in a gorge by a community of Buddhist monks. They date from 200BC and have many paintings and sculptures, which depict the life of the Buddha. Very impressive. We spent the morning exploring, had lunch in the staff canteen and then set off for Aurangabad – our base for visiting Dalutabad fort and the caves at Ellora. |
