Discovered we had spent the night near Ciucea – we
weren’t exactly sure where we were when we stopped!
We still hadn’t found anywhere to change money so we kept our
eyes peeled for a bank. We
eventually found one in the next town of substance – but it was shut,
being a Saturday. No sign
of a cash machine. Still,
peopleseem more than happy to accept dollars at a reasonable rate.
We stopped in Clug Napoca and were rewarded with not only an exchange office but also a cash machine (in fact there were at least 2!). We stopped to celebrate with a coffee and bought some bread for lunch. It had the feel of an interesting town with several old churches and buildings. Perhaps we should have stopped longer to explore. We did, however, narrowly avoid getting caught up in a politcal rally of some description. Drove for most of the day and arrived at Poiana Brasov (a ski resort) just as it was getting dark. Fortunately the tourist office was still open and they were very helpful in finding us somewhere to stay. We have a lovely little flat all to ourselves (and much cheaper than a hotel room). |
