Wandered around Roznov pod Radhostem – a quiet little
town, not spoilt by the high rises left by the Communist era (at least
the high rises are across the river and some way from the central area).
We vistited the only open one of the three Skansen
(Open Air Folk Museum) in the town.
The museum was really a small wooden village built in the
Wallachian style of the local area. You
could go into most of the buildings and see just how the people would
have lived in the Traditional Way.
If we had visited during the main tourst season – people actually lived in the houses, the Inn is run as an Ale House and there are loads of activities – apparently. Before leaving the general area we went up into the hills to see the wooden houses in situ. We then travelled on to the Slovakian Border and on, through rolling, wooded hills, past factories and industrial towns. We stopped at Zvolen, where the Auto-Kemping map indicated an all year campground – but when we evenutally found it after pulling a couple of laps of the town - it was shut! The only other camping place nearby, this time listed in the Rough Guide, was back up the road that we had just been down. So we pulled a ‘U-ie’ and went to pull a couple of laps of the other town. Even worse this time – we couldn’t even find a campsite and there wasn’t one shown on the Town Map either! We gave up and booked into a motel. |
