Located where the track left the otherside of the bog and
found a way through that followed firm ground without difficulty.
It’s amazing how things change with daylight!
Enjoyed the rest of the track which becomes more of a road when
you approach Diggers Rest – a station/tourist stay that does horse
treks. Passed a Series 3
heading in the other direction. Swapped
stories and warned him that the lower of 2 possible routes was rather
boggy. The road after the
turnoff to Diggers Rest was gravel road rather than 4WD track.
We stopped for smoko at the Wyndham Prison Boab tree. Not as spacious inside as the Derby one. As we were passing, we popped in to see the rock art at Moochalabra Dam. Actually, we were hoping to get up to see the reservoir but the road was closed off by the water authority. Continued on to Wyndham – first sealed road in a very long time! Wyndham is pretty small but the view from the 5 Rivers Lookout is spectacular. Well worth the steep drive to the top. Returned to main highway and drove towards Kununurra. Stopped at ‘the Grotto’ for a picturesque and refreshing pre-lunchtime swim. Arrived in Kununurra in time to catch up with all the mundane things we’ve been away from for so long: grocery shopping, fuel, laundry, e-mail etc. Spent the evening sorting out the website while Fred cooked tea and watched TV. |
