Awoke to snow and slush – so we haven’t been
successful at leaving it behind! Weather
still revolting. No
beautiful views over the Bosphorous – can’t see much further than
500m. Followed signs from
the campsite to Ankara. Once we had crossed the Bosphorous, most of the way was on
fast and almost empty motorway.
Well, we are now into our second continent – Asia. Europe is now behind us. We passed through the area that had been hit by the earthquake in November. Half collapsed houses, tents and broken road was still very much in evidence. It must be bitterly cold for people still living in tents. The area is fairly close to Istanbul, so I guess the city was lucky. We travelled around Ankara and stopped at a rather nice hotel on the South side. We are most unaccustomed to the level of service that we received and weren’t quite sure how we were expected to behave. |
