Waved Goodbye to our new found friends as they set off back to Islamabad.  We found ourselves a friendly cycle rickshaw wallah and set off for town.  We were originally heading for the moneychanger but were waylaid as we past a wedding party and stopped to see what was going on.

We were enthusiastically welcomed and invited to join in the celebrations.  We must have been something of a novelty and received much attention.  It was a very colourful and lively affair.  Food and drink from all directions.  Our kind host introduced us to all of his family, addresses were swapped and many questions asked from all sides.  Fred even had one proposal of marriage, I believe!  We had a wonderful time and were sorry to take our leave of our friendly, hospitable host.

We returned to our waiting rickshaw, successfully changed money and then visited the Golden Temple in daylight.  Equally beautiful, although the cold marble was pleasant to bare feet in the heat of the day.  We also looked around the museum dedicated to the history of Sikhism, although the latter part of the museum is a grim display of Sikh martyrs and wars throughout the ages.

Leaving the museum and temple, we went to the Jallianwala Bagh (Bagh = gardens), where the English shamefully massacred thousands of unarmed protestors on 1919.  The memorial gardens are beautiful, although framed bullet holes and accounts of the massacre make one ashamed to be English.

Our final piece of sight seeing for the day was a visit to the Durgiana Hindu temple.  I don’t know which one was built first (Golden or Durgiana) but oneis plainly a copy of the other.  Although the Golden Temple has more gold and is cleaner.
