Spent a very frustrating day attempting to upload the
rest of the website. The
main problem is that the internet service is so slow and intermittent
that it frequently ‘drops out’ in the middle of uploading a batch of
files. This means that you have to start that batch all over again.
If it times out using the FTP programme, it is equally as
frustrating (although you don’t have to start from scratch) it means
that you have to wait an hour for the web host’s server to log you off
the FTP connection.
The last and most reliable internet café that we tried (and had tried yesterday, with most success) suggested that we should fetch our laptop and connect it to the internet using their phoneline. We returned from the hotel with our PC and assorted different connectors. Things began to go well from here on in. Thanks are entirely due to the staff at Web Struk, who went out of their way to be extremely helpful – to the extent that we were supplied with cream cakes and entertainment during our 3 hour uploading stint (and they only charged us at cost because we used our own PC). So, three cheers for the crew at Web Struk who run the friendliest, most helpful cyber café in Jaipur. Relieved that we had succeeded, we returned to the Jaipur Inn to enjoy the evening buffet in the rooftop ‘restaurant’ (bit of a big word). Noisy wedding processions and accompanying fireworks provided entertainment. Fred has been occupying himself in a most unusual occupation - reading. Fancy finding a book to hold his interest! |
