Had a late one last night/this morning as I decided to
make the most of a hotel room with a telephone and updated the website.
Consequently, we woke up fairly late and had a leisurely
breakfast before taking the bus into town.
We had read that parking could be difficult.
We needn’t have worried as today is a holiday –
Dreikonigstage (Epiphany) and it was like a ghost town!
This made it very enjoyable exploring without crowds.
We made our way from the bus stop through the town, admiring old
buildings, towards the Schlossberg.
The Schloss (castle) of the Schlossberg was more or less destroyed by Napoleon and the whole hill and remains have been transformed into wonderful parkland with excellent views. We left Graz around lunchtime and travelled North to Wien. The beautiful sunshine gaveway to thick fog, making driving more difficult. The Autobahn in the opposite direction just south of Wien was closed as a result of a rather nasty accident. We hit Vienna town centre before expected and so we hadn’t stopped to find or buy a map. Nowhere was open so we headed through until we found a filling station, bought a map and then easily located the campsite that is open all year round. |
